$53m cocaine cargo found in abandoned truck

Police have discovered 127 kg of high purity cocaine in an abandoned truck in the

southwest Colombian Nariño department, Caracol Radio reported Tuesday.

A trained police dog was responsable for the identification of the high quality 127 kg shipment, worth more than $53.4 million, which was being transported in a truck in the south of Nariño.

It appears that the driver abandoned the truck, loaded with cocaine hermetically sealed inside steel bars, when he noticed a security checkpoint in the area.

According to initial investigations, the narcotic shipment was destined for North America or Europe.

Earlier this month, a further 811 kg of cocaine were seized in Cartagena, although Colombia nevertheless remains the world’s primary cocaine producer, with an estimated 90% of cocaine seized in the U.S. originating in the Andean nation.
