Bombs placed at Partido de la U offices in Cali

Small explosive devices were placed in front of the offices of three Partido de la U representatives in Cali on Monday night.

The first explosion was detonated at around 11:00 PM Monday in front of Congressman Tyrone Carvajal’s office, causing damage to the building’s windows, according to El Pais.

The second explosions occurred simultaneously in front of Senator Elmer Arenas’ office, but caused no damage.

Police bomb technicians managed to locate and dispose of the third explosive device, which was placed in front of Senator Dillian Francisca Toro’s office.

These attacks come hours after the government announced plans to put the national military and police on high alert in order to guarantee security for the upcoming congressional elections on March 14.

Speaking about the incident, general Miguel Angel Bojaca, commander of the Metropolitan Police of Cali, said that the bombs were “an act of intimidation..against the Partido de la U.”

He went on to say that the bombs were possibly placed by the FARC.

Hours earlier, Minister of Defense Gabriel Silva announced that more than 233,000 men will be called upon to provide security for the 71,000 voting stations across the country.
