After nearly two years of talks between the government and the FARC guerrillas in Havana, Cuba, round 29 starts today, reported EFE on Tuesday.
The talks will continue discussing the agenda item on recognition and reparation for victims. This new cycle runs until the 3rd of October and is part of the fourth of the five points that comprise the agenda for peace negotiations.
A new delegation of 12 victims will participate at the close of this period of dialogue and talk to the negotiating parties at a meeting scheduled for October 2. This group will be the third of five that the FARC and the government have received in Havana, all elected by the UN and the Thought Center of the National University at the request of the negotiating parties.
The members of the delegations represent a total of over 6.5 million Colombian victims of murders, massacres, disappearances and torture. The selection is made based on four forums, three regional and one national, in several cities of Colombia between July and August.
Of the 12 members of the first delegation, five were victims of the FARC, four from the State, two of paramilitary groups and various armed actors. In the second delegation 9 of the 12 victims were women.
This new cycle of talks opens after bloody attacks between both parties in the last ten days. FARC were attributed last Sunday with killing seven policemen in a rural area of the Caribbean province of Cordoba, while in the course of a military operation in the center of the country six guerrillas of the armed group were killed.
