2,400 minors fight in FARC ranks: police

At least 2,400 minors are fighting in the FARC, Colombian police said Thursday after finding personnel records of the guerrilla organization.

The National Police says it was able to seize the personal records of 5,546 rebels enrolled in the guerrillas’ Eastern Bloc. 2,417 of these guerrillas are younger than 18.

The files were found on October 25 in a raid that killed James Patamala, a prominent FARC commander.

Human rights organizations and the United Nations have regularly denounced the guerrillas for their recruitment of minors.
