At least eleven members of the FARC guerrilla group were killed early Tuesday morning in a confrontation with Colombian troops.
The battle took place in the rural region of Miraflores, in the department of Guaviare, reports Caracol Radio.
According to General Jorge Suarez, commander of the 22nd Brigade of the Colombian Armed Forces, an important FARC leader, Leionardo Antonio Marin Cano, alias “Pinguino”, was also killed in the operation.
It is suspected that Cano was the chief of security for “Cesar”, head of the FARC’s 1st Front.
In addition, the Colombian military found an all terrain vehicle (ATV) during the operation, the same kind that had been used to transport one of the FARC’s top leaders, Jorge Briceño, also known as “Mono Joyjoy”.
