10 missing after north Colombia bridge collapses

Approximately ten people are missing in the northern Colombian department of Santander after the bridge they were crossing collapsed and threw the victims in the strong current of the river below.

The incident took place Wednesday on the road between the city of Bucaramanga and the village of San Vicente de Chucuri.

According to authorities, the bridge collapsed due to the high water levels and strong currents of the Sogamoso river.

Rescue workers are searching for the victims.

The Santander department was on of the hardest hit by last year’s rainy season, which destroyed large parts of the department’s infrastructure.
