American dream becoming reality: Alpina president

The president of Alpina said the Colombian dairy products company’s American dream is becoming a reality, as construction on the New York production plant commences.

“At Alpina we are making our American dream a reality. Approximately at the end of the second semester of 2012 we will be in our new home in the United States,” said Alpina President Julian Jaramillo.

In an interview with Colombian financial publication Dinero, Jaramillo said “a few days ago we officially initiated the construction of a new production plant in the city of Batavia in the west of New York state.”

The new plant is expected to create 50 direct jobs and Alpina will team up with the community and local farmers. The New York plant will be the company’s tenth; there are currently six in Colombia, two in Ecuador and one in Venezuela.

Jaramillo added that in Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela and the United States, the company is seeing important growth and the outlook is promising.

When asked why Alpina sought an alliance with iconic Colombian coffee brand Juan Valdez to produce coffee and milk based beverages, Jaramillo responded that Juan Valdez and Alpina have the common attributes of innovation, quality, and international expansion. “It is a perfect match that is now beginning to bear fruit.”
