América hold Junior, Cali win and Cartagena celebrate

América de Cali remain in first place in Group B of the Copa Mustang II
semi final stage following a draw at Junior Barranquilla, while
Deportivo Cali moved into second place with a win over Pereira. Real
Cartagena secured a ticket for next year’s top flight.

Forty thousand fans watched as Junior took the lead in the 20th minute thanks to a controversial penalty converted by Palacio.

But América fought their way back and levelled through Arango in minute 67. The visitors were the better side in the remainder of the match but no more goals were scored.

Earlier, Deportivo Cali easily beat René Higuita’s Pereira 3-0.

Aguilar scored the opener on 19 minutes and Montero added the second in the 48th. In the 63rd, he scored from the penalty spot to extend the gap to three.

América keep their lead in Group B with five points from three games. Cali and Junior are second with four points each and the exact same goal record. Pereira are in a difficult spot with only three points.

There was more football on Saturday as Real Cartagena secured a spot in next year’s Copa Mustang. Cartagena had beaten Deportivo Rio Negro 3-0 in the first leg of the ‘promotion final’ but things weren’t as easy in the second leg.

Rio Negro had a 2-0 lead after a bit more than thirty minutes but couldn’t add another. Instead, Cartagena got one back to secure the trophy.
