América de Cali join La Equidad and Boyacá Chicó at the top of the
Colombian league table, following a 0-2 win at Atlético Nacional in
Medellín.
The match between Nacional and América was played at an empty Atanasio Girardot stadium, as the venue has to keep its gates closed for two home games.
América was particularly dominant in the first half, and score the opener through Gustavo Ramos in the 31st minute. Nacional did better after the break but couldn’t keep Victor Cortés from netting a second with four minutes to go.
Junior Barranquilla were held to a goalless draw at Cúcuta Deportivo, near the Venezuelan border. As a result, Junior are now fifth on the table.
Newly promoted Real Cartagena did well to come from behind and beat Envigado in their first home match since returning to Colombia’s top flight. Freddy Grisales but Envigado ahead on 14 minutes but Edinson Palomino levelled in the 83rd. Emerson Chamorro scored in added time to hand Cartagena their first three points of the season.
Deportes Tolima are still without a win this season, as the Ibagué outfit lost 0-1 to Atlético Huila. Amilcar Henríquez scored the only goal after just eight minutes.
Deportes Quindío held Millonarios to a 1-1 draw at Bogotá’s Campín stadium. Millos captain Gerardo Bedoya scored from a free kick in the 67th minute but defender Ivan Hurtado headed the ball into his own goal with five minutes to go.
Deportivo Pasto and Deportivo Pereira held each other to a disappointing scoreless result in the south of Colombia.
América de Cali, La Equidad and Boyacá Chico are the only three teams that managed to win their first two games and share first place. Atlético Nacional on the other hand, is the only team that hasn’t earned a single point from their first two matches.
