Alleged kidnappers of Valle deputies sent to jail

A Colombian prosecutor authorized the incarceration of 10 alleged members of the FARC who are accused of kidnapping 12 deputies of the Valle del Cauca department in 2002.

The suspects are accused of having carried out the kidnapping that eventually resulted in the death of 11 of the politicians. One of the deputies was released from captivity in 2009, the others were executed.

The kidnapping was one of the FARC’s most high-profile attacks. Dressed as soldiers, the guerrillas entered the Valle del Cauca government building and kidnapped the deputies while they were in a meeting.

The accused, alleged members of the FARC’s 29th and 60th fronts are being held in the Villahermosa prison in Cali.
