Dutch airline opens new Cartagena-Curaçao flight route

Caribbean-based Dutch Antilles Express Airlines is opening a new direct route between the Caribbean island of Curaçao and Colombia’s historical port city Cartagena, Colombian media reported Monday.

The route will run twice weekly to and from the popular coastal city and will be one of the only direct transport links between Colombia’s Caribbean coast and the Dutch Antilles, islands in the Caribbean sea north-east of the Andean nation.

Each airplane will have a capacity of up to 45 passengers and will depart every Saturday and Monday.

The airline’s director, Floris Van Pallandt, said that his company decided to open a route to Cartagena due to the city’s wealth of culture, history and architecture.

The director also pointed out that the airline’s new destination is not far from the Colombian port city of Barranquilla, which is known for its high standard of healthcare and receives many visitors looking for medical services.
