Afro-Colombian El Sexteto Tabala release album

by Alex Hocking May 13, 2010

sexteto cabala, colombia, afrocolombian

El Sexteto Tabala release their new album “Con un Solo Pie,” an Afro-Colombian mixture of palenquera, bullerengue, porro, and Carribbean coast rhythms, reports Estereo Fonica.

The sextet’s musical roots are in Uraba, Choco and various other areas onf Colombia’s Pacific and Caribbean coast, tingeing their uniquely mathematical sound with numerous influences.

“Con un Solo Pie” captures the group performing previously unheard material and presents it in an authentic-sounding format, lending clarity to the unmistakeable voices of Rafael Cassianni Cassianni and Jose Valdez Paito.

This album adds to Colombia’s rich folkloric heritage, serving as a record of the country’s musical diversity.
