Aerorepublica to become Copa Airlines Colombia

Colombian airline Aerorepublica is changing its name to Copa Airlines Colombia.

“We’re proud to be able to reach our objective of transforming our airline and as of today it will take off as Copa Airlines Colombia,” said the new company’s president Roberto Jungiuto Pombo. “This new brand will facilitate the international expansion we have undertaken and will bring greater benefits to our customers.”

The airline hopes to have three new aircraft by the end of 2010, and an 80% increase in occupied seats on its international flights. In 2011, $300 million will be invested in the growth and renovation of the fleet of planes. The company’s name change will cost $2 million, and will have taken effect by May 2011.

Copa Airlines Colombia will maintain the same flight routes as Aerorepublica.
