Disquiet has been caused in the northern Colombian state of Magdalena over the delivery of 100 unusual wheelchairs that are made in part by plastic garden chairs.
The chairs were donated by by the government with support from the state of Magdalena. After several local community leaders expressed their dissatisfaction with the donation, a representative from the foundation that donated the chairs said that they were “new and imported” and that they had been delivered to various parts of the world.
Ludwin Davila, a community leader, publicly denounced the delivery, saying that the chairs “do not meet minimum technical standards for the disabled.”
The foundation that manufactures the chairs said that the chairs “are designed for rough terrain and combine the durability of a hard plastic chair with a rigid metal frame and mountain bike wheels.”
