At least six guerrillas from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) were killed and eighteen others captured by the Colombian army in the west of the country last week, authorities said on Sunday.
Six members of the FARC’s “Angelino Godoy” Front were killed in the rural area of the city of Neiva, Huila province, General Henry Torres said, adding that one soldier was killed in the clashes.
The leader of the front, alias “Rigo,” was among the dead, who were believed to be behind many “terrorist attacks” and the murder of some 20 people, including a government official and a policeman.
During another operation, a member of the FARC’s “Uriel Londolo” gang was arrested by the army in the Arauca province on the border with Venezuela.
Meanwhile, police captured 17 other rebels, including the brother of the commander of the 30th Front, alias “Mincho,” in the rural area of Buenaventura port, in the southwestern Valle de Cauca province.
Since January, the FARC has intensified its attacks in several regions of the country, as it usually does before the presidential elections, which will be held on May 30. (Xinhua)
