Authorities in the Colombian cities of Cali and Popayan on Sunday arrested five men, two of whom are wanted by the United States on drug trafficking charges.
According to U.S. prosecutors, the suspects control a large part of the cocaine and heroin markets iof New York, New Jersey and Florida.
The American authorities say that the organization sent their drugs in small quantities through “mulas” or mules, individuals carrying packets of drugs across the border inside their stomach. The group primarily used the airports of Cali and Bogota to send the “mulas” to the U.S.
Colombian authorities will now start a process to extradite the two suspects wanted in the U.S. so they can stand trial before a New York court.
