The Colombian Defense Minister Gabriel Silva said Friday that countries such as Venezuela should focus on their own internal security problems rather than criticizing Colombian policy.
Silva said that regional conflicts will not distract Colombia from its fight against drug trafficking, adding that the nation has limited resources and won’t waste them on waging war, Caracol Radio reported.
“It seems to us that countries should follow our example, where spending on security and defense is orientated towards citizens’ needs, which are security in their homes, in their lives and in their assets,” the defense minister said.
He added that 86% of Venezuelans consider civil insecurity, murder and violence their biggest concerns, and that their government should seek to emulate the Colombian government’s focus on improving internal security.
