Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos gave Edward Niño Hernandez, officially the world’s shortest man, a laptop and access to free healthcare during a visit to the presidential palace.
Santos, who put the 24-year-old on his lap while posing for press, thanked Hernandez for visiting the Casa de Nariño and assured the celebrity that he was always welcome.
Santos invited Hernandez after the latter told Associated Press that one of his biggest dreams was to meet former President Alvaro Uribe, who is currently in the United States to teach at Georgetown University.
Following a conversation between Colombia’s most powerful man and the world’s shortest man, Santos told reporters Hernandez was “very sweet” and that the record-breaker admitted having voted for Santos in both presidential election rounds.
The 27-inch tall Hernandez became the world’s shortest man after the death of Chinese He Pingping. His reign is expected to be as short as his stature, as a 22-inch tall Nepalese youngster is soon to turn 18.
