9 missing after Magdalena river crash

The Colombian Navy is looking for nine people who went missing after their boat crashed with a tugboat on the Magdalena river Wednesday.

A Navy spokesperson said Wednesday that search efforts are being hampered by the river’s strong current and high water levels.

“The search area may extend to seven miles downstream,” the spokesperson said on the Navy website.

The six adults and three children that are missing were on a boat called “El Titanic” that was carrying 11 people over the Magdalena river close to where the river joins the Cauca river. A man and a woman were rescued shortly after the crash.
