At least six soldiers and three guerrillas were killed in combat between the FARC and the Army in the western Colombian department of Choco Saturday.
The army told press the FARC’s attacked the security forces in order to disable energy towers near Carmen de Atrato, a small town located on the highway connecting Medellin to the Choco capital of Quibdo.
According to newspaper El Espectador, the guerrillas took advantage of landslides that had disconnected the region from Medellin, making it more difficult for the army to send reinforcements to where the combat was taking place.
