An 86-year-old kidnap victim from the northeastern department of Arauca on Tuesday regained her freedom.
Lila Quinta de Imbeth, 86, a cattle farmer from the rural municipality of Arauca, was found in the early hours of Tuesday morning, not 30 minutes from where she was reportedly forced into a car on Saturday.
The police department in Arauca told Colombia Reports that they are still unsure as to the motives of the kidnapping, although Wilson Bravo Cardenas, police chief for Arauca, earlier this week declared that the kidnapping could have been the work of common delinquents.
The kidnapping of Senora de Imbeth provoked a strong reaction from the local community in Arauca, with a march and a church service being carried out in the cattle farmer’s name, attended by the majority of the community as well as the governor of Arauca.
It is also worth noting that yesterday the governmental department offered a reward of approximately $10,000 to anyone who could shed light on the whereabouts of the 86 year old.
Quinta’s daughter spoke out against the kidnappers before her release stating, “This can not stand, this is an 86-year-old woman. The whole thing is a complete sin.”
According to the local police, Lila Quinta is still recovering from the ordeal and will speak about her experience when she can.
Accroding to Semana, livestock farmers in Arauca are particularly targeted by delinquent groups, with 13 cases of kidnappings in the sector since the beginning of 2012.
