780 suspects investigated for recruiting disappeared youth

Colombia’s Prosecution is investigating 780 suspects –most linked with
paramilitary groups– who are assumed to have recruited youth that
later ended up being killed by the army, newspaper El Espectador
reported Friday.

Sources consulted by the newspaper say that, thanks to the incentives given to increase the number of guerrillas killed in combat, illegal enterprises have come to exist engaged in the selection and recruitment of youth that fit a certain description.

In most investigated cases the victim had some kind of criminal record.

After recruitment the victims ended up being killed by the army and registered as guerrillas killed in combat.
