7 soldiers indicted for extrajudicial killings

Seven soldiers of Colombia’s military were indicted in Cali Wednesday for the alleged murder of a farmer they had reported as a guerrilla killed in combat.

One army officer and six soldiers are linked to the death of farmer Jose Orlando Giraldo who allegedly was killed in fighting with rebels in the district of Golondrinas.

During the first hearing, none of the soldiers accepted the charges, local media reported.

The daughter of the victim reiterated that her father was not a guerrilla as presented by the army.

More than a thousand members of the armed forces are suspected of
having murdered civilians to make the war against illegal armed groups
look more effective and receive rewards.
