60 years in jail for father that killed child

by Adriaan Alsema December 19, 2008

The father that killed his 11 month son to avoid paying child support
— an incident that caused a massive uproar in Colombia in September —
was sentenced to 60 years in jail Thursday.

Orlando Pelayo received the maximum penalty for the murder on his son Luis Santiago Lozano, who was kidnapped first and then murdered.

The father had admitted to have paid an accomplice to kidnap the child from his ex-wife’s house, because he didn’t want to pay child support.

The kidnapping and the death of the baby caused great anger among Colombians.
