At least five miners died in a mining accident in the north eastern department of Norte de Santander, Colombian media reported on Wednesday.
According to Caracol Radio, the bodies of five miners were recovered from the mine. The body of a sixth miner was still in the mine. Two miners were injured in the accident and taken to hospital.
The accident took place when the eight miners were exploring for coal 2,600 feet below the surface. The cause of the accident is unknown. According to RCN Radio, it is assumed that an explosion took place following the accumulation of gases.
