5 dead in traffic accidents on Colombia’s Caribbean coast

Three traffic accidents claimed the lives of five people on the roads of the northern Colombian department of Sucre during Monday’s public holiday, reported Caracol Radio.

Twenty-three others were injured in the crashes. The most serious accident took place on the main road in the west of the department, between the municipalities of Los Palmitos and Ovejas Sucre where the driver of an interdepartmental bus lost control of the vehicle which flipped to one side of the road. The crash killed a two-year-old child and a woman. Seventeen others were injured and are being treated in hospital.

A truck transporting rural workers overturned killing two people and injuring six on the road that links Sincelejo, the departmental capital with the interior.

In the municipality of Los Palmitos, a motorcyclist died after crashing into a cargo truck.
