A cable measuring 171,000 miles in length and set 3,800 miles beneath sea level is set to increase internet speeds and capacity for Colombia.
In a flurry of excitement local press have been quick to report that the cable, which is due to be completed in the coming months, will increase the internet capcity in Colombia by 50,000 gigabytes – it is due to be operational in the first quarter of 2014. As well as bringing better internet it will also introduce 4G capabilities to the country.
The direct aim of this development is to improve the quality of telecommunications as well as meeting the growing consumer demand for internet and mobile data. This is largely because of the growing consumer use of smartphones and tablets.
