The festival will feature traditional Colombian vallenato music. Groups of both professional and amateur musicians will compete in a variety of age categories for titles such as ‘the King of Vallenato’.

This year a record number of 203 accordion players will compete in the festival. 56 of the competitors are professionals, 47 are amateurs, 58 are teenagers and 42 are children.

The Colombian government announced it will have seven main highways to Valledupar, including those from Bogota, Medellin and Cali, heavily guarded by police to ensure the safe passage of festival attendees.

The festival will run from April 28 to May 2.
