4.1 earthquake hits southwest Colombia

Seismological authorities in the south-west of Colombia are on alert after an earthquake of 4.1 on the Richter scale occurred little more than a mile from the Galeras volcano’s main crater.

The earthquake took place little after 3AM at a depth of 4.6 miles and according to seismologists was due to volcanic activity of Colombia’s most active volcano.

The Colombian Institute of Geology and Mines is studying the earthquake. According to local media there were no reports of damages or injuries.
