40 years sentences for Bogotá upper class club massacre

Two brothers — associates of Colombian rebel group FARC — were
sentenced to 40 years in jail for the attack on El Nogal, an exclusive night club in Bogotá in 2003. The attack killed 36 people.

The brothers Heminsul and Fernando Arellán were convicted for terrorism, aggravated homicide and rebellion.

The car bomb attack — killing 38 and wounding 200 — was carried out by the brothers and their cousin, who was a FARC infiltrant and squash teacher in the club, the judge ruled.

The defense of the brothers announced it would appeal the verdict.

El Nogal was a very exclusive nightclub in Colombia’s capital and frequented by socialites and politicians.
