4 soldiers killed, 9 injured in northeast Colombia lightning storm

Four soldiers were killed and nine injured in a lightning storm in the northeast department of Norte de Santander, various media reported.

One sergeant and three regular soldiers, members of the 30th Brigade of the Second Division of the National Army, were struck by lighting just after midnight on Thursday while on duty in the municipality of Teorama.

The bad weather impeded the army’s attempt to rescue the injured soldiers by helicopter but the men were eventually taken to hospitals in the nearby towns of Ocaña and Cucuto.
