Colombian news - Medellin birthday

Colombia’s second largest city, Medellin, on Tuesday celebrated its 335th birthday with a program of events, including music, theater, and a kite show.

The city has received 60,000 presents so far, including poems, videos and songs, through the website www.felizcumplemedellin.com and at special sites to in the city where gifts can be left.

The Corporation of Santa Elena Silleteros gave Medellin a gigantic bouquet of flowers with the text “And what are you going to give Medellin so it continues to be unstoppable?” The bouquet was presented at midday to mayor of Medellin, Alonso Salazar Jaramillo.

Seven silleteros, people who parade with flowers, made the bouquet of 600 branches, each with 50 flowers, which took eight days to construct.
