300,000 trucks join gas price protest in Colombia

More than 300,000 cargo and public service vehicles would not be operating in Colombia Tuesday in protest at gas prices, reported Radio Caracol.

President of the Colombian Federation of Freight Forwarders (COLFECAR) Jorge Ignacio Garcia accused the government of illegally raising prices. According to Garcia, oil prices are down from $142 a barrel in 2008 to $107 at present, but current gas prices in Colombia do not reflect this drop.

“I request the government to allow the legislature which begins today to revise the draft law, backed by 500,000 signatures, and to analyze the true costs of exploration, refining and fuel production in the country,” Garcia told Radio Caracol.
