3 soldiers killed, 2 wounded in firefight with ‘FARC’

Three Colombian soldiers were killed and two more were wounded Tuesday during a firefight with alleged FARC guerrillas in the rural municipality of Puerto Caicedo in the southern department of Putumayo.

According to a brigade command communication, the Colombian Army’s 25th Infantry Battalion under the command of General Roberto Domingo Rico Diaz suffered casualties when his troops confronted a group from the FARC’s 32nd Front, who were intent on carrying out a terrorist attack.

At the end of the communication, the commander of the 27th brigade expressed sympathy to the friends and relatives of the dead soldiers stating that they were, “heroes of the fatherland who gave their lives in accordance with their constitutional duties.”

Another soldier also disappeared during the fighting. His fate remains unknown.
