Roadside bomb kills 3 police in southwest Colombia

Three policemen have been killed and a fourth was injured in a roadside bomb attack in the southwest of Colombia, authorities said Thursday.

According to official sources, the four policemen were driving on a country road in the Cauca department when FARC rebels detonated explosives at the time the car passed.

Following the ambush, police reinforcements were sent to the area and “activated an intense contingency plan at the scene of the incident to trace the terrorist cell that installed and activated the explosives,” the Police said, but no suspect was arrested.

The Cauca department is the most affected by the FARC’s fight against the state and has seen dozens of rebel attacks against security forces, infrastructure and towns this year alone.
