3 killed, dozens injured, in west Colombia bus crash

A bus carrying a group of tourists crashed on Monday killing three people and wounding dozens of others on the road from Alcala to Cartago in Colombia’s western department of Valle del Cauca.

Police Chief Colonel Julian Gonzalez said that the driver of the service vehicle belonging to the Transazucarero company lost control and swerved off the road before rolling into a ditch.

“The bus, that had 40 passengers, unfortunately left the road, it seems that it was [caused] by the inexperience of the driver,” Cartago Police Commander Colonel Omar Rubio said in a statement to RCN Radio.

The wounded were taken to the Departmental Hospital of Cartago and to the Alcala Hospital, and authorities are trying to establish the exact causes of the accident.
