3 FARC negotiators still wanted by Interpol

At least three of the ten representatives of Colombia guerrilla group FARC who are expected to hold peace talks with the country’s government in Norway next week are still facing red notice alerts, international police organization Interpol said Monday.

The three negotiators, “Marco Leon,” Sargento Pascuas” and “Andres Paris” are still wanted to face justice, according to the website of Interpol.

“As long as they are still on our public website, an alert notice for their international capture still exists,” a representative of Interpol told Colombia Reports.

Interpol’s statement contradicts that of FARC negotiator “Hermes Aguilar” who said Sunday that Interpol had cancelled the notices for rebel leaders set to travel to Norway to participate in peace talks with the Colombian government in attempts to end the country’s 48-year-old armed conflict.

All three negotiators on Interpol’s wanted list received a so-called “Red Notice” at the request of the Colombian authorities.

Interpol Colombia, which falls under Colombia’s National Police could not confirm or deny to Colombia Reports whether it had lifted or maintained the arrest warrant against the rebel negotiators.

Six of the ten FARC negotiators did no longer appear on the Interpol website on Monday. The real name of negotiator “Bernardo Salcedo” is unknown which makes hum untraceable on the Interpol website.

Interpol lacks the formal authority to issue international arrest warrants, as this is left to sovereign states, but the red notice is the closest possible instrument to this.
