2Q GDP likely expanded 5% on year: Finance Minister

The Colombian gross domestic product likely expanded 5% in the second quarter of this year compared with the same period in 2009, Finance Minister Juan Carlos Echeverry said Wednesday.

All the data available about recent indicators show the country’s economic growth was faster in the second than in the first quarter, Echeverry told reporters after delivering a speech in Congress.

The Colombian economy, which is emerging from a slowdown last year, grew 4.4% in the first quarter compared with the same period in 2009 after expanding a scant 0.8% in 2009 compared with the previous year. (Inti Landauro / Dow Jones Newswires)
