26 cocaine labs destroyed in southern Colombia

Colombia’s Anti-Narcotics Police have discovered and dismantled 26 cocaine laboratories in the southcentral Colombian department of Guaviare, El Espectador reported Sunday.

The laboratories were all between small and medium capacity, each capable of producing about 50 kilos of cocaine base weekly.

The 1st and 7th Fronts of the FARC have been identified as the operators of 21 of the laboratories, with the remaining five belonging to the neo-paramilitary organization ERPAC.

The authorities were aided in their operations by information provided by local sources, who notified them of several “rustic” buildings in the Guaviare jungle that could be used for cocaine processing.

Police sources stated these operations aim to disrupt the FARC’s financial income and possibly catch members of the FARC or other criminal groups.
