Colombian jewelers have been commissioned to make the official ring for the World Cup in South Africa in 2010.
The jewelers from the department of Santander won the contract through an Argentine firm that negotiated the deal with the International Federation of Association Football (F.I.F.A.).
El Tiempo reported that the jewelers will make close to 700,000 rings. Each ring will cost between US$1,000 and US$24,000. Three versions of the ring will be manufactured, in platinum, gold and a silver-gold blend. They will be sold exclusively in F.I.F.A. and Oro-Colombia stores.
