200 fireworks victims in December

200 people were taken to Colombian hospitals in December for burns
caused by fireworks. Social Protection Minister Diego Palacio announced
Thurday.

The number of victims is significantly lower than last year when nearly 300 people were injured.

The minister says the reduction of injuries is thanks to bill prohibiting fireworks and the collaboration with municipalities, of which some did local advertisement on the dangers of the December tradition of setting off fireworks throughout the month.

Hospitals around the country will be on yellow alert until the beginning of January to deal with an incresed number of burn victims.
