2 off-duty Colombian soldiers killed

Two Colombian soldiers, who had “escaped” from a military base in the Huila department, are the apparent victims of a double homicide, according to several media.

The bodies of the soldiers from the Infantry Battalion No. 26 were found in the village of Los Mangos of the Iquira municipality.

The two soldiers, dressed in civilian clothes, had both suffered several gunshot wounds to the head.

According to an official announcement of the Ninth Brigade, Jose Oyola Morales and Jorge Daniel Hernandez Castillo had “escaped from the Patio Bonito [military] base in the Iquira municipality,” newspaper La Nacion reported.

Colombia’s Technical Investigations Unit will continue investigations to determine the cause, and pursue the perpetrators, of the soldier’s death.
