15,000 police officers to protect Colombian schools

Fifteen thousand Colombian police officers have been assigned to schools across the country to guarantee the security of students and teachers.

Drugs, weapons, and violence are endemic within the Colombian school system, according to Caracol Radio

General Orlando Paez, Colombia’s police director for civic security, reported that last week alone over 3,600 weapons and two kilos of drugs were confiscated from schools across Colombia.

The areas of the country with heightened security problems in schools, according to Paez, include Barranquilla, Cartagena, Huila and Pereria.

The general explained that the 15,000 officers will be assigned to 1,771 schools across the country and will work with students and staff to promote peaceful resolutions of conflicts; to fight the problem of satanic cults infiltrating schools; and to prevent the consumption of drugs.
