15,000 Colombian refugees to return from Ecuador

More than 15,000 Colombian refugees in Ecuador are set to return home over the next four years, according to the department for refugees, part of Ecuador’s Foreign Ministry, RCN Radio reports.

Alfonso Morales, director of the department, said that displaced people from the departments of Cauca, Putumayo and Nari

“On Wednesday, a technical committee composed of the government of Colombia and Ecuador will begin a project to seek the restoration of the rights of foreigners. The meeting will be held in Quito,” said Morales.

Morales further stated that Ecuador invests $40 million a year in caring for Colombian refugees, but it is not enough to provide for all their needs.
