Twelve companies contracted by Canadian oil company Pacific Rubiales have been fined more than $66,000 for not guaranteeing the labor rights of their employees.
According to Labor vice minister David Luna, the companies were given the financial penalties for not paying overtime, and disregarding occupational health and workplace hazards, among other issues.
Inspections were carried out by the Labor Ministry’s Regional Directorate for the Meta Department. Luna said visits were made to six Pacific Rubiales oil fields, which employ over 4,200 workers.
The Labor Ministry has not given the names of the companies that were sanctioned.
