Spain finds 100kg cocaine in Colombian flower shipment

Spanish police have seized 100 kilos of cocaine hidden in Colombian roses at Madrid-Barajas airport, Spanish media reported Friday.

One hundred kilograms of high purity cocaine was impregnanted in the paper in which the flowers were wrapped, in a shipment weighing 550 kilos.

The Judicial Police of the Madrid-Barajas airport seized the shipment of flowers and arrested one person, the receiver of the consignment, as part of Operation Big Flower.

The operation began in May when agents who were monitoring the owner of a certain business became suspicious due to the inactivity of the business and the volume of the imports.

This led them to discover that the flowers, instead of being distributed to florists were being left to rot in a Madrid warehouse and thrown in dumpsters.
