10,000 small farmers to benefit from new govt project

Colombian Agricultural Minister Juan Camilo Restrepo announced a government project to help boost the production of 10,000 small farms in Colombia, the news site CM& reported Monday.

The Planting Plan program will run in partnership with non-profit organizations for the next three years, Restrepo said.

Each family farm will reportedly be given a package that can be used for machinery, credit irrigation, home ownership, or land.

Though the project will initially aid 10,000 families of farmers, the Colombian government hopes to eventually reach 100,000.
