One person has been killed and three others injured in an alleged FARC attack which defied the unilateral truce of the guerrilla group during the Christmas period, reported local media.
The attack happened in the southwestern Colombian department of Cauca where it was reported that FARC guerrillas blew explosive devices against residential housing.
General Humberto Jorge Jerez, commander of Apollo Task Force, announced afterwards that the attack was “clear evidence “ that the guerrillas continue to attack troops and civilians in the south.
He added: “The FARC cannot come and say it was because that was the Army, my troops were not within two kilometres of the place.”
Meanwhile, Colonel John Meza, from Mobile Brigade No. 14, stressed that although there are Colombian army’s troops in the area there are no reported clashes with FARC.
It would not be the first time the ceasefire has been broken as the FARC admitted to attacking an energy tower at the end of November because they were unaware of the agreement.
