1 dead, 9 injured in northeast Colombia mine blast

One person was killed and nine were injured in a mine explosion in northeastern Colombia.

The incident apparently occurred after a build up of gases while workers were extracting materials at the Panela mine, in the municipality of Salazar de la Palmas, in the northern department of Norte de Santander.

State and Red Cross rescue workers were sent in to oversee the evacuation process. Some of the injured workers were sent to medical centers in the nearby city of Cucuta to receive further treatment.

The body of the deceased miner remained in Salazar de la Palmas, awaiting the arrival of their family.
