Prices for flights inside Colombia continue falling. Airfares decreased by
almost 22% in Colombia in June 2009 compared to the same month last year, president of
the Air Transport Association ATAC, Manuel Leal, told local media
Wednesday.
While airfares of international flight with final destination in Colombia decreased by 4%, the prices for national flights fell by almost 22%, Leal reported.
An important role of the reduced prices are the lower fuel costs, the president of ATAC said. In July last year, the oil price peaked at US$147 per barrel. Currently a barrel costs less than US$70.
But not only the decrease in fix costs are the reason for reduced air fares. Colombian airlines have been actively reducing prices for flight tickets. Aires, for example, is currently offering national flights for 60 per cent of their original price.

... The photo of the El Dorado ticket counter area must have been taken at 3:00 Am. It is usually jammed with several hundred people and long lines. |

... while prices for in country flights have decreased, if you expect the same fare when paying in US funds ..you may be very surprised. Avicanca from Medellin to Santa Marta in USD's was twice as the price when paying in COP'S. I am curious what the agreement between the U.S. Department of Transportation and Colombia is and if this sort of pricing would break an open sky agreement... |
